Four years ago, we watched the Fierce Five win the gymnastic team gold on international soil for the very first time. It was truly incredible to watch these five young athletes defy gravity in the name of our country.
But 15 years before that? There was the Magnificent Seven. The entire country watched as these seven young women competed right here in the United States during the 1996 Olympic games.
Shannon Miller, Dominique Moceanu, Dominique Dawes, Kerri Strug, Amy Chow, Amanda Borden, and Jaycie Phelps all brought their own unique talents to that team 20 years ago.
I bet you remember watching the final vault by Kerri Strug. That one vault was the deciding factor of who would take home the all-around gold medal.
But where are these seven incredible women now? And what have they been doing for the past 20 years? Well, they've had their ups and downs, that's for sure.
The way that these seven women talk about those Olympic Games 20 years ago in an interview with Today is something that all young women and men should strive for. They were a real team with genuine camaraderie. Each member knew her strengths and played to them, knowing that what they had was crucial for their team. No one went out of their way to outshine another.
Listening to these women speak about those games in the past only makes me more excited for the upcoming games. Will you be watching to see if more history will be made?
