When music is really good, it honestly doesn't matter if you can understand the lyrics or not. Maybe that's why Gasper Nali's song is becoming unexpectedly popular right now.
This incredible musician is from Malawi: a small African country near Zambia and Tanzania. You probably won't understand a word he's saying, and I'd certainly never even heard of the instrument he was playing, but somehow, this song is catchier than any pop song on the radio right now!
Some of the commenters on this video did a bit of research, and they discovered that the instrument that Gasper is playing is called the babatoni. It's a type of string instrument that you definitely don't normally see on this side of the world, but Gasper plays it like a pro. I haven't seen an instrument this bizarre since I saw this guy introduce the world to this crazy-sounding creation! It's amazing how much this talented man can do at one time. Just like this busker who plays a ton of instruments at once, he really knows how to coordinate different parts of his body to create a really cool sound!
Although it sounds like a really cheerful tune, the lyrics to this song are actually pretty grim. They talk about all the problems in Malawi, such as kids growing up too fast, human trafficking, and preachers getting drunk instead of preaching. But still, I would much prefer to listen to this cool song instead of most of the junk you hear on radio stations today. It's been stuck in my head since I first heard it, and I don't mind one bit.
