Every December, kids around the country dress up in their favorite outfits (or the ones Mom and Dad pick out for them), and head to the mall to sit on Santa’s lap.
Santa Clauses set up shop and sit for hours on end while children tell them what they want for Christmas and get their pictures taken. Sitting on Santa’s lap is such a big part of some people’s Christmases that adults and dogs even get in on the action, taking pictures with Old St. Nick.
For most kids, meeting Santa is a highlight of their holiday season — even the kids who cry during photos sometimes remember that moment fondly.
But one 9-year-old's visit to Santa left him feeling self-conscious and dejected. Anthony Mayse had a wonderful winter-themed weekend with his mom. They went ice skating and followed it up by visiting Santa. But that’s when things turned sour.
Anthony sat with Santa and asked for an iPod Touch and a drone for Christmas. But when he was done wishing for gifts, Santa told him to “lay off the hamburgers and French fries."
Anthony understandably felt awful after Santa effectively fat shamed him, and he told WILX 10 News that he cried until he went to bed that night. Santa was forced to apologize to Anthony, but Anthony doesn't feel the apology was sincere.
