The Mamas And The Papas Perform “California Dreamin”

In 1966 this amazing performance featuring The Mamas and the Papas played out in front of an enraptured audience, and when you're finished watching them belt out this heart-throbbing song, you'll easily understand why the song, "California Dreamin," holds the honorable #89 spot on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

Though they didn't originally author the famous song, this amazing folk band is certainly the reason behind its success. The song expresses the longing for the warmth and love that California has to offer in an otherwise cold and passionless winter.

Coming out during one of the most turbulent decades in our nation's history, this song became an anthem of sorts for the counter-culture "hippies," who all seemed to dream for a better tomorrow and a more peaceful atmosphere.

The song itself received much acclaim, numerous awards, was certified as a Gold record single, and eventually was entered into the Grammy Hall of Fame. The Mamas and the Papas truly had a unique style, focusing mostly on the harmonies of their voices and the individual strengths of everyone involved. As you watch this nostalgia inducing video you'll instantly find yourself getting warped back to this interesting time in America's history.

While we may not have agreed with their counter-culture approach to living one thing is for certain, they definitely made some interesting music! What do you think? Did you like The Mamas and the Papas or not? Let us know in the comments below!
