The most popular pets are likely dogs and cats, but that doesn't mean other animals don't want the same tender, loving care.
One man captured his remarkable relationship with his pet fish, and it's so unexpected! In the video below, Roland Giroux dips his hand into the water and gently cups the fish, a blood parrot cichlid. Then, he treats the marine animal to a gentle massage. Now that's a good boy!
Unusual pets — like the domesticated fox who thinks he's a dog or the capybara who babysits the family puppies — always bring a smile to my face, and this is no exception.
The entire time, the fish stays completely still as if enjoying the sensation. It's like this fish thinks he's a dog! The interaction continues for quite some time. The fish swims away for a few seconds before returning for some more belly rubs.
According to Mr. Giroux, who uploads many videos of his fish to his YouTube channel, he started interacting with the fish by feeding it frozen blood worms by hand and noticed the fish enjoyed being massaged. After a while, Giroux noted that the fish came to expect it and now gets the loving pat down on a daily basis.
The blood parrot cichlid is a hybrid of the Midas and the redhead cichlid and was first bred in Taiwan around 1986.
