It was a frightening day at a Philadelphia subway station when one man slipped onto the train tracks. While many commuters initially moved back in horror, one brave man did the unthinkable — he risked his life to save a total stranger.
It’s incredible to hear of people saving the lives of others, like the teenager who stopped a woman from jumping off of a bridge. There’s also the powerful moment when subway passengers in Perth, Australia joined forces to save a man by tilting a train.
The surveillance video shown below displays 28-year-old Charles Collins quickly jumping onto the train tracks and lifting Alfred McNamee to safety. It’s even more comforting to watch what happens next at the :14 mark.
Luckily, the man who jumped in to save the stranger’s life suffered only a minor injury to his leg, according to NBC Philadelphia. The man he saved was left with some broken bones.
While Collins’ incredible deed was applauded by the transit agency, it told the publication “passengers should have notified the cashier or used the emergency call box to get the electricity shut off.”
