Friendly Manatee Pops Up To Say Hello To Two Paddleboarders

Celine Chasteen was out paddleboarding with a friend when she started to notice that they were being followed. And when you’re stranded out in the water? That can be just a little bit scary. Much to their relief, both young women were safe — not to mention extremely delighted to find that their little impromptu traveling companion was actually an adorable manatee!

They burst into a fit of giggles when their sea-worthy friend drifts underneath them and even slaps two huge fins onto the paddleboard. You might even think this manatee is saying hello!

It’s not entirely surprising, as manatees are known to be very gentle, loving creatures — a lot like the one that stayed with a stranded pup until humans finally came to the rescue. There must be something about canines and sea animals, because another dog met a manatee for the first time with surprising results. Too precious!

When asked about her paddleboarding experience, Chasteen told WPTV News that it was “the craziest thing ever.” Just watching this video was incredible to experience. I loved it so much!

However, it’s important to remember not to touch a manatee for any reason. They may look cute (because they most certainly are), but these young women had the right idea when they didn’t go in for a high five. If you encounter a manatee while you’re out in the water, just let them float on by. They’ll be very happy you did!
