The Third Marine Aircraft Wing Band did something a little special during the their third Birthday Ball concert.
The group performed a re-written version of Macklemore's "Thrift Shop" and "Can't Hold Us."
"Cpl Eric Fisher did an awesome job rewriting the lyrics and SSgt Justin Lienemann pitched in a little bit, and SSgt. Josh Lively did a great job putting the whole thing together. Here's to 238 years of the Marine Corps doing things like no one else," one of the members writes.
Though it may seem at odds with their purpose in combat, Marines are pretty musically talented. After I saw Marine Corps Sgt. Dan Clark sing "God Bless America," I was blown away!
The Third Marine Aircraft Wing Band was created during World War II and has since been deployed sporadically throughout the decades. The band still contributes to the conflict in Afghanistan by sending motivated volunteers in to augment the force of Marines established there.
The concert band performs everything from ensemble literature, Broadway show tunes, movie film scores, classical transcriptions, contemporary concert band music, and traditional marches. Each member is combat-trained and the musicians are just as proficient with their weapons as they are with their instruments.
See their incredible rendition of these popular songs because no one does it like the Marines!
