Marine Surprised When Disabled Son Learns To Walk In Secret

After Marine Staff Sgt. Jeremy Cooney and his wife Melissa welcomed their son Michael, doctors broke the devastating news. Michael had cerebral palsy and would never walk. The Cooneys, who have four other children, continued on with their lives in acceptance of Michael's diagnosis.

But while Jeremy was on deployment in Afghanistan, his son discovered to stand up completely on his own. It all began when his teachers taught him to walk with a cane at the age of 6, but Michael stunned them all by taking a few steps on his own. However, Melissa and the rest of the family wanted to keep this a surprise — so when Sgt. Cooney came back home from his tour to Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, he was shocked to see his little boy running toward him. The footage went viral, touching hearts across the country.

In 2013, the Cooneys paid a visit to Katie to describe the special moment firsthand. Just wait until you see the love between this heroic father and his incredible little boy — and how he really feels about the surprise he never saw coming.
