Dave Woodruff, a U.S. Marine, had missed his father’s birthday two years in a row while he was deployed. In turn, he wanted to do something really special to make it up to him.
Military surprises are always emotional. Just watch when Staff Sgt. Jennifer White surprises her young children at school or when this soldier proposes to his girlfriend. Woodruff’s moment is just as monumental.
During his employment in Spain, the young Marine came up with the perfect birthday present for his father.
His first surprise came in the form of a video, which his parents were able to view during a church service at Christ The King Church of Denville in New Jersey.
“As some of you know my dad’s 53rd birthday is coming up in a couple of days,” Woodruff says in the clip. “I just want to say happy early birthday Dad. I love and miss you and I will be home before you know it.”
It didn’t take long before his mother started weeping while his father sat with a huge smile on his face.
Woodruff then instructs his parents to turn around for the ultimate surprise. The 3:00 mark is truly heartwarming and his mother’s reaction is certainly a tearjerker.
