Remember how exciting it was to bounce around in a ball pit when you were a kid?! Well, it's not just humans who seem to enjoy this fun past time.
As part of an enrichment tool, animal specialists at the Adelaide Zoo decided to create a ball pit for its wild animals. Of course, the playful meerkats had a complete ball when they discovered it.
To make sure we keep their minds and bodies stimulated, zookeepers use a range of enrichment tricks and tools, like hiding tasty mealworms among these plastic balls.
They set up a hidden camera in a meerkat enclosure and watched to see what the cheeky creatures would do. At first, one meerkat goes to check out the colorful plastic ball pit. Before long, the whole gang is ready to join in the fun! Their excitement reminds me of Maymo the dog, who got over a thousand colorful plastic balls in his very own homemade ball pit for his birthday!
They all seem to enjoy a romp in a ball pool, some even diving in head first. They just can't seem to resist those colorful lightweight balls.
Couldn't you just watch these adorable meerkats all day?! I know I could!
