When Chris Trokey was born thirty-four years ago, he was only 3.2 lbs, and doctors gave him a 50/50 chance of surviving. It's thanks to the incredible care of his pediatrician, Dr. Michael Shannon, that Chris is alive today…and, due to an unbelievable twist, it's thanks to Chris that Dr. Shannon is alive today, too!
We've shown you many stories of infants surviving against all odds, like this baby who was buried after being stillborn and then came back to life, but very few doctors get the chance to see their patients so many years later. Dr. Shannon saw Chris after he was trapped in a fiery car crash. Unbeknownst to him, the little baby whose life he'd saved over thirty years earlier was now a paramedic and one of the first responders who helped save the pediatrician from being burned alive in his vehicle. This story might be even crazier than the one where a flower girl and a ring bearer created their own love story when they met again after fifteen years! Even more heartwarming is that Dr. Shannon is now the pediatrician for Chris' kids. What goes around truly comes back around.
It's exceptionally rare to find a story as crazy and beautiful as this one. Some might call this chance encounter lucky, or even a coincidence. I prefer to think of it as a miracle.
