Michael Bublé Addresses Retirement Rumors After Fans Freak Out On Twitter

Last week, Michael Bublé caused a frenzy when he announced that he was retiring from music after his upcoming album. Michael explained in a recent interview that, after his son battled liver cancer in 2016, his priorities changed.

"This is my last interview," Michael, 43, told the Daily Mail's Weekend magazine. "I'm retiring from the business. I've made the perfect record and now I can leave at the very top."

Right away, the entire internet began mourning. Social media users exploded with sadness, shock, and anger over Michael's retirement. One social media user proposed that, without Michael, "Christmas is CANCELLED."

But fortunately for those who celebrate Christmas, Michael and his representative clarified the situation in follow-up interviews.

"He is NOT retiring," the rep told Today. "Definitely not."

Indeed, Michael joked that he can't quit.

"I need the money," he told SiriusXM's Fantasy Sports Radio.

Apparently, Michael's quote about retirement was taken out of context. Those words came after a long interview in which Michael explained his hesitation about being in the public eye after his son's cancer diagnosis.

Fortunately, though, he has a new album coming out and a possible upcoming tour, just in time for the holidays. Phew!

Michael Bublé has had a rough couple of years. In 2016, he and his wife, Luisana Lopilato, welcomed their second son, Elias. Their older son, Noah, was born in 2013.

In 2016, Noah was diagnosed with liver cancer at just 3 years old.

Michael and Luisana both took a break from their careers to focus on their son's health.

And in early 2017, Noah was reportedly on the mend.

Noah is now in remission, and in July 2018, Luisana gave birth to their third child, Vida Amber Betty.

But Noah's battle with cancer had a profound and lasting effect on Michael.

In a recent interview, Michael explained that the trauma of Noah's illness had caused him to reevaluate his priorities. He said that he would retire from music after his next album, Love.

The quote caused quite the uproar on Twitter. Users simply could not believe that Michael was leaving the business — right before the holidays, too.

The singer is known for his Christmas tunes. Without him, Christmas might as well be canceled, one Twitter user insisted.

People were seriously mourning the bad news.

A few days after the Twitter frenzy, though, a representative for Michael clarified things in another interview.

Despite Michael's quote in the interview, he's not actually retiring from the business anytime soon.

"He is NOT retiring," the rep told Today. "Definitely not."

Michael's words about retirement came after a long interview about Noah's cancer battle and his reluctance to be in the public eye afterward.

Michael himself responded to the rumors during an appearance on SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio.

"Come on, are you kidding me? I need the money. I'm not going anywhere," the singer laughed.

So everything is OK! Christmas is back on!

Michael's upcoming album, Love, will be released on November 16.
