Believe it or not, many celebrities have been in cults.
River and Joaquin Phoenix, Winona Ryder, the Arquette siblings — even Glenn Close, whose parents joined the extreme conservative group Moral Re-Armament when she was seven years old. Close even toured with the cult’s singing group, Up With People, until she was in college. She claims that being in the cult actually helped her become an actress because she constantly had to pretend that she believed what the cult told her. Did they tell her that boiling bunnies is a nice thing to do? Did they Glenn? Did they?
Now Michelle Pfeiffer — Catwoman, Elvira Hancock, Stephanie from Grease 2! — is opening up about her brief time in a cult in her 20s, when she first moved to Los Angeles.
The cult Pfeiffer joined was called “Breatharian,” and what they believe is pretty insane.
“They were very controlling,” she told Stella Magazine. She also claimed that what the cult wanted her to do was something “…nobody could adhere to.”
What did this cult want her to do, and what kind of cult were they? Find out by watching the video below.
