Dealing with the death of a parent at any age is very difficult, but it's almost impossible when you're young.
As an adult, you usually don't depend on your parents for care and daily help — but as a child, when your parents pass away, it forces you to grow up very quickly. You immediately have to learn to care for yourself, as well as deal with emotional grief.
For middle school students whose parents pass away, it can be even more difficult.
Middle schoolers are already dealing with the challenges of adolescence, hormones, and changing emotions and bodies — so handling the trauma of a parent dying can take a huge emotional toll.
Middle schoolers are known for being mean to one another — they take out their insecurities on others and bully kids who are different from them.
So when two students at Fremont Middle School lost their mom, teachers didn't know how other students would act toward them.

The students at the school did something so incredible for their two peers: put encouraging notes all over their lockers.
Drew Kuespert explained the story on Love What Matters, and the photos immediately gained a lot of attention, with over 11,000 likes and more than 500 shares on Facebook.
The post on Love What Matters says:
I want to say how proud I am of our young people at Fremont Middle School for their love for the two classmates who lost their mother this past Monday.
The kids took the time to write uplifting messages of love, prayer and support to their sorrowful fellow Eagles.
It’s moments like this that prove that FMS is the best school in the state for so many reasons.
Our entire community mourns.
God bless.
The grieving students were stunned when they got to school and saw that their lockers were completely covered in Post-it notes.
They had no idea what to expect when they got closer to the notes, but they were blown away when they read what the notes said.
Many of the notes said "stay strong," while others featured images of hearts.
Although it didn't ease the pain of losing their mother, knowing that the other students were there from them definitely helped them make it through the day.
