When you're a kid, there's really nothing like playing a good old game of catch with your old man.
However, when you're a kid whose parent is in the military, times like these are even more sacred. We've seen how just about anything can happen on the pitcher's mound at a baseball game. From this surprise proposal to this man, who overcame an unthinkable tragedy to throw out the "first pitch," many times the most exciting part of the game happens before it even starts.
This next video of a heartwarming surprise is no different. Just like when this little girl was shocked by an unexpected visitor on the field, when the Kansas City Royals invited 11-year-old pitcher Austin Sides was invited to a game in 2014, the team's management had something sneaky in mind. For any 11-year-old baseball fan, throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at a major league game is a dream come true. Unfortunately, Austin believed the one person who taught him how to throw wouldn't be able to see his moment in the spotlight.
Little did Austin know that his dad, who had been deployed in Afghanistan for the past year was no longer thousands of miles away, but posing as a Royals catcher right there on the field. The moment Air Force Major Robert Sides takes off his helmet for the big reveal is absolutely priceless!
