Military Mom Finds Out About Teen Son’s Tragic Death On His Way Home From Active Duty Service

Imagine that your worst fear as a mother came true and you had to learn about it via social media. That is the reality Iowa mom Vickie Kautzky faces. The mom was perusing social media and saw a photo of a vehicle crash in an online group. She then had the heartbreaking realization it could be her son.

Marin Rose, 19, was serving in the Iowa National Guard as a transportation driver with the 1133rd Transportation Company when he had a fatal crash with a semitruck. His mother later revealed she believes he fell asleep at the wheel, crossed the median, and went head-on with the truck. No one else was injured.

The mom confirmed that her suspicions were correct in a gut-wrenching update.

“Laying rumors and second guessing to rest,” she wrote. “Yes, it was our son/brother/loved one who was involved in the fatal accident on Wednesday, north of Mt. Pleasant. If I could take his place, I would. I wish to not wake up if it meant he was here. We, as a family, are numb. We have cried and laughed and cried together some more. No way in hell should a 19 year old with so much life and love…..omg, so much love…have that taken from him. From all of us.”

The Iowa National Guard has since released a statement that said was a beloved member of his unit. Rose was known for his positive attitude, dedication, and work ethic. He joined the military shortly before he graduated high school in 2023.

“He was an avid Miami Dolphins and Iowa Hawkeyes fan, a passionate weather-watcher, and loved spending time with family, gaming, golfing, and going on long drives,” the Iowa National Guard went on to say in the release.

Marin Rose is survived by his mother, his father Greg Rose, four siblings, a girlfriend, nieces and nephews, grandparents, and numerous friends.
