It Might Be More Difficult To Sleep Deeply At Night If The Mirror In Your Room Reflects The Bed

If you have trouble sleeping at night, you aren't alone. I can be exhausted and dreaming of bed all day, then toss and turn all night after I hit the hay — that is, if I fall asleep in the first place.

It's widely known that doctors recommend you get at least 8 hours of sleep. Many of us will laugh and roll our eyes as we read that. I know I did as I wrote it, but still, it's an aspirational thought.

As someone who has tried nearly everything to achieve that deep sleep I've heard so much about, I'm pretty open to kooky ideas about what might be interrupting my sleep.

After all, there's nothing crazier than being sleepy all day and then wide awake as soon as you get into bed.

According to the principles of feng shui, the position of the mirror in my room might be what's messing with my eight hours.

You've probably heard of feng shui before, but what exactly is it?

Dictionary.com defines it as, "The Chinese art or practice of creating harmonious surroundings that enhance the balance of yin and yang, as in arranging furniture or determining the siting of the house."

Mirrors have a place in the legends of many cultures. Their reflective quality captures the attention and imagination of nearly everyone who walks by one.

According to Feng Shui Tips, mirror placement is key.

What the mirror reflects is most important. It should never reflect a toilet seat, another mirror, unpleasant views or, most importantly in this case, a bed.

There is no denying that having a mirror in your bedroom is convenient. In fact, it's pretty much a standard fixture.

But according to feng shui, there are some compelling reasons why you might want to avoid it, at least if you can see yourself in it from the bed.

One reason holds that if you can see the reflection of yourself or your partner lying down in bed, it will bring a third person into your relationship.

The most important reason why you should be mindful of mirror placement in your room — for the purpose of this article — is that it can interfere with your sleep.

Mind Body Green reports that mirrors hold a lot of power in feng shui, and it has to do with a mirror being a metaphor for life.

Mirrors hold the power to magnify, energize, and alter space, according to feng shui.

A mirror in your room might be bouncing energy around and keeping you up at night.

This is especially true if your mirror is above your bed or directly across from it.

According to Feng Shui Nexus, a poorly placed mirror in the bedroom can also be responsible for bad nightmares and soul stealing.

Supposedly, our souls leave our bodies while we sleep, and seeing its reflection will cause bad nightmares.

Additionally, if the soul gets so startled that it never returns  to the body, it's called soul stealing.

The easiest solution to this problem is to obviously remove the mirror from your bedroom completely.

However, a more realistic solution might include putting it on the inside of your closet door.

Even if you don't believe in feng shui, I think we can all agree that having a mirror that catches your every movement might be distracting.

Besides, I am willing to try almost anything to get a good night's sleep!
