The body of a missing Texas mother has been found.
Angela Leann Mitchell, 24, was only reported missing six days ago, but sadly, that search has come to a horrific end. Her body turned up this week in the trunk of her own car.
The gruesome discovery was made after someone called 911 over a stench coming from a white Honda, thinking the source of the smell might be a decomposing body.
The mom from Dickinson, Texas, was last seen alive by a friend on May 5 in Texas City. The car where her body was discovered had been parked in a neighborhood near where she was last seen. The car had been there several days. But while Angela Mitchell's car was discovered the same day she was reported missing, it took authorities days to investigate the vehicle.
Angela Mitchell was reported missing by her mother, Georgia Mitchell, who said she hadn't heard from her daughter in 24 hours. She contacted authorities in Texas City because that's where her daughter had last been seen. The grieving mother says she felt ignored by Texas City police, who kept passing her case off to Dickinson police.
"I went back to Texas City and they turned me away again for the second or third time and told me I had to file with Dickinson because she resided in Dickinson," she told KHOU.
"I just wanted to find my baby. I just wanted somebody to help me, and nobody was helping me."
Angela Mitchell leaves behind four children. The youngest is just 7 months old. "Well, he's going to know his mama," Georgia Mitchell insists. "He is, because I am going to make sure. But the fact that he is not going to remember what a wonderful mother he had and how much she loved him — I am going to make sure that he knows."
A cause of death has not yet been revealed, and no arrests have been made. Mainland Communities Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
Georgia Mitchell created a GoFundMe and is asking for prayers and donations after the loss of her daughter. "She surrounded everyone she knew with love and laughter," she writes on the page.
