Older family members are known for sometimes sending weird messages when trying to learn a new social media or messaging platform. There can be a learning curve mastering new technology. Unfortunately, this does not seem to be the case in Georgia.
Police in Georgia are investigating a tragic but intriguing case involving an adult mother and daughter pair, a cryptic message, and Venmo. Deborrah Collier, 59, was found dead just one day after sending her adult daughter a message and money via Venmo.
On September 10, 2022, Deborrah Collier messaged her adult daughter via Venmo. She said, "They are not going to let me go, love you. There is a key to the house in the blue flower pot by the door."

The message was attached to a money transfer of $2,400 sent to Collier’s daughter’s account. Naturally, her daughter was concerned and immediately tried to call her mom. Her mother did not answer her phone.
Collier’s daughter went to the police and filed a missing person's report. Police also tried to call her phone. They were unsuccessful.
This story did not have a happy ending. On September 11, 2022, officials found Collier’s body in a wooded area in Habersham County. This is about one hour from her home. Her body was found near her abandoned rental car.
The investigation is still ongoing. Because of this, officials have not released much information about the case. They are treating this case as a homicide.
Collier was last seen on September 9, 2022. She left her house with just her driver’s license and cellphone. Both her daughter and husband say this is out of character for her.
They both stated to police, "This is unusual for Deborrah to do this. She has not done anything like this before."
Collier did not have a history of mental illness. Her daughter also said she had a bad back so she would not walk into the woods on her own. She was physically unable to do it.
Collier worked as an office manager at Carriage House Realty. Both Collier’s husband and daughter are in shock over this tragic turn of events. They want answers as to what happened to their loved one.
