Heartwarming Video Shows Mom Reunite With Her Son After 40 Years Apart

A mom who didn't see her eldest son for 40 years recently reunited with him. The mom, Jane Kim, got divorced from the father of her son, Brian Oh, when he was about 2 years old. She told Good Morning America that she wanted to raise her son, but her ex-husband's mom kept trying to convince her to let her ex-husband's family take care of him.

She wanted what was best for her kid and thought she would still be able to have a relationship with him. However, her ex-husband's family did everything they could to stop her from seeing or communicating with Brian.

For some time, Brian didn't know that Jane was his mom. He thought his stepmom was his birth mom, but in third grade, found out that she wasn't by reading his sister's diary, reported Good Morning America.

Jane's other son, Ed Kim, captured his mom's reunion with her older son. In the video, Ed asks his mom if she's excited to meet up with her other son.

"It's strange, this feeling," she said. "But it's good. It's really good."

In the video, he explained that his mom "reluctantly agreed" to let Brian stay with his father because she wanted what was best for him.

"This family then completely blocked mom out of his life, rejected any attempt by mom to reconnect with him, told mom to stop trying to send birthday gifts, etc.," he said in the video.

Jane stayed in touch with a friend, or "auntie," who gave her information about her son without the family knowing. Still, she couldn't help them reconnect. When Brian's dad died, the auntie realized that she could help Brian meet his birth mom.

"On the day of the funeral, [the friend] came up to me and she gave me a slip of paper and said, 'That's your mom's phone number, so give her a call,'" Brian told Good Morning America.

Since they hadn't seen each other in 40 years, they were "up all night" talking to each other, Ed said in the video.

Ed explained that he found out Brian was living in Los Angeles. He then made plans to visit so he could meet his older brother for the first time and Jane could reconnect with her other son.

Jane and Brian's reunion was extremely emotional, and they can be heard sobbing in the video.

Reflecting on the experience, Jane told Good Morning America that she was "so emotional."

Many people took to the comments section to share that they cried watching the video.

"Gutted," one person wrote. "How devastating. Glad they are reunited after all those years."

"Those sobs are years of heartbreak and longing for her baby," another person commented. "Her poor heart."
