Got an old prom dress that you loved so much but can't seem to find a use for? Or maybe it's your wedding or bridesmaid dress that you can't seem to repurpose?
Enter: Mom Prom. Yeah, Mom Proms are a real thing and they're all over the country.
Proms are a special time in everyone's life. It's no wonder that when Ben Moser made good on his promise to take his friend Mary Lapkowicz as his date, the world took notice!
Mom Proms began when Betty Crapps, a Michigan mom, wanted to wear her pink, fluffy prom dress once last time.
She held a party with dinner and dancing at a church. She charged each woman attendee $10 and donated the profits to a local homeless shelter.
At each prom, moms gather with a real DJ for drinks and dancing. They vote on the tackiest dress and honor a new prom queen.
"It's the one night women can have no responsibilities and have a lot of fun together, It's sort of a sisterhood," says Crapps.
Mom Proms are undeniably awesome. They allow women to meet other women like them, plan an entire event, and give Mommy a few — well-earned — nights off!
But there's perhaps one more good reason to participate in your local Mom Prom. Let's just say they're not only about moms.
