Bringing a child into the world, despite its many difficulties, should be a beautiful experience. With doctors there to guide the way and nurses around to ensure your care, having a healthy baby should be a parent's only concern.
With around 350 thousand babies being born each day (that's 4.3 babies every second), it's no surprise that hospitals are pretty busy places.
But what do you do if your hospital made a terrible mistake — one that will affect you, and your baby, for the rest of your lives?
That's exactly what happened to Zella Jackson Price in 1965. When little Diane was taken away by nurses, Zella was told she'd never see her baby again…
Now, half a century later, this heartbroken mother has learned the shocking truth.

On November 25, 1965, two months premature, a little girl named Diane was born. Weighing just 2.3 pounds, baby Diane was whisked away by nurses. With her weight dropping quickly, doctors said it was unlikely the baby would survive.

Hours later, Diane's mother, Zella, was given the sad news that her baby had passed away. Heartbroken, Zella and her husband returned home, no new baby in their arms.

Little did they know that it was all a huge mistake: Baby Diane was alive. She had been mistakenly, mysteriously, adopted out to another family. Diane would become "Melanie," and she would grow up thinking she'd been abandoned at birth.

Fifty years would pass before Zella learned the shocking truth, all thanks to a puzzling Facebook message: “My mother’s name is Melanie Diane Jackson... I want to know if you’re my grandmother.”

Melanie's children had been searching for the truth, and they had found it. They sat their mother down and revealed all: Her mother was alive, and they knew who — and where — she was.

But the surprise wasn't over yet! They had arranged a video chat between Zella and Melanie. Both collapsed into tears. Melanie (who fell deaf during a childhood illness) signed "I love you" to her long-lost mother.

Melanie and her children wasted no time flying out to meet their blood relatives. Though her father had long since passed, Melanie had three brothers, three sisters, and an uncle to meet — and of course, her dear mom.

When her daughter pulled up, Zella, now 76 years old, had to hold back from running down the driveway.

"I wish more than anything that she was with me and I had raised her," said Zella. "But I’m just so happy that she’s alive. To God be the glory!”

Now, the family looks forward to making up for all their lost time. "Everything the Devil had taken from me," said Zella, "I'm taking back."
