It's always nice to have something special to remember someone by — especially when it's made by hand.
It can be cathartic to use a DIY project to honor a loved one's life and help you remember all the good times, the funny stories, and beautiful memories you have of them — like this son who refurbished an old table in his father's memory.
But of all the special DIY projects I've come across, this incredible urn might just be the most touching.
When this DIY-er's father passed away suddenly, he didn't want to buy an urn from the funeral home. Instead, he decided to create a custom urn for each of his siblings, in the spirit of his father who taught him how to work with his hands.
His father, a mechanic who owned his own towing and repair shop, had been a fan of motorcycles when he was younger — so he decided to incorporate some Harley-Davidson piston chambers in honor of his father's love of all things motor.

When his father died unexpectedly, this son wanted to do something special to make his urn unique. So he set out to handcraft an urn for each of his siblings, starting with his eldest sister.
His father, a mechanic who owned his own towing and repair shop, had been always been a fan of motorcycles. To honor that, his son used Harley-Davidson piston chambers — kindly donated by a friend who works with motorcycles.
Inside the piston chamber is where the remains of his father are kept, in a small glass jar.
The jar fits perfectly inside the piston chamber.
"Since my dad was such a hard-working man, I figured his urn should have a job, too."
He decided to create a secret storage space as part of the urn, so his siblings could store pictures and keepsakes of their father in a special place.
On the inside of the box, he installed a spring hinge.
From the outside, it looks like a simple name plate — but when you push it, the box opens!
His sister can keep memories of their dad in this super-secret storage part of the urn.
The finished product is a unique and beautiful memorial to his father that he was able to make with his own two hands.
