Confession: I'm not a country music fan. The genre never managed to find its way to me. Growing up, my dad listened to the Eagles, Queen, and The Rolling Stone. My mom favored the disco tracks of Earth Wind & Fire and The Bee Gees. The neighborhood kids listened to hip-hop and, in my desperation to be cool, I followed my older brother's lead and listened to alternative rock.
I may not be the biggest country music fan, but I am a fan of Nashville. The country soap opera has a lot to offer: Connie Britton's hair, Hayden Panettiere's heart-wrenching performances, and all the drama you could ask for. Perhaps it's greatest offering, though, is its original music.
It's no secret that musical heavyweights like T-Bone Burnett and Buddy Miller have served as executive music producers of the show. The combination of these seasoned producers and singer-songwriters with the sheer talent the show has cultivated has produced true moments of musical brilliance.
There just aren't very many shows where the original music works outside of the context of the episode — but when Nashville is on fire, it's on fire.
