Vintage ‘National Drinking Game’ PSA Warns About The Dangers Of Alcoholism

When I turned 21, I spent the evening in a Las Vegas casino. As salacious as that sounds, I was in the company of my mom and her best friend. The special trip was arranged so that I could see the Cirque du Soleil show Love, based on the Beatles music. Having only had a few drinks in my life before that night, it was a big moment when I ordered a margarita from the casino floor at exactly 12:01 on my big day. However, as we all eventually discover the morning after a fun night out, alcohol also comes with a significant consequence. For some, the delicious liquor can become a slippery slope.

Alcoholism is a serious condition facing countless adults across the country on a daily basis. The disease can be so sneaky that individuals often don't even realize they've succumbed to its toxic effects. This ad from the 1970s, a era when the popularity of free-flowing house parties had risen to a historical peak, shows the happy faces of folks tossing back a few suddenly taking a turn.

As the crowd laughs and jokes around, a narrator asks them a series of questions dubbed as the "National Drinking Game," inviting everyone watching to play along.

The 10 questions require a simple "yes" or "no" response and, at first, they continue to banter as they answer about their drinking habits. Soon, however, the silly atmosphere fades away as they begin to realize their practices might be more harmful than they thought. It's important to recognize these signs before it's too late!
