Can You Spot The Nine Faces Hidden Inside This Portrait?

When I look at an image, I tend to form a pretty well-defined first impression of what I’m looking at.

As a result, it can be a little tricky for me to see it from another perspective. Usually, I need someone to point out a detail for me that helps me switch the way I’m looking at the scene.

This can happen to me in all sorts of circumstances, from trying to spot a bird overhead that the rest of my family is marveling at, to simple optical illusions.

Needless to say, I had a tricky time with this two-sided image of a womannostalgic old illustration.

And that’s just two figures concealed in one image. So you can imagine how I fared when I came up against a painting by famed Mexican surrealist painter Octavio Ocampo, which has not two, not three, but nine faces hidden inside it.

How did you do? Did you find all nine faces? Let us know in the comments below!

At first glance, the painting, called The General’s Family, appears to be a simple portrait of a distinguished older man in profile.

But when you look more closely, you can see that the painting is just full of smaller figures, comprising nine human faces in total.

The simplest section is by far this center section. It features the profile of the older gentleman, presumably “the General.”

You can see that his face contains the image of another older man, and the image of a young woman holding a baby; these are the first four faces.

The next five are a bit trickier, and you have to look into the backdrop of the painting to see them.

Now, you can see the initial four faces, plus two more on either side of the arch.

On the left side of the arch, you can also see two profiles and a face in the center, bringing us to nine.

Of course, if you count the dog, we’re up to 10!
