Footage Shows Officer Jumping Into Freezing Lake To Try And Save Drowning Stranger

No one ever wants to find themselves caught in a dangerous or life-threatening situation. We hear about these moments on the news almost every night, and most of us cringe as we hear the devastating stories that don't have happy endings.

But, thankfully, there are many people out there who try to help us get to the happy endings — our law enforcement officers and our servicemen and servicewomen.

Officer James Patterson stepped up to the plate. A certified lifesaver who is on the police swim team in his hometown, he decided to dive into the water and try to save a man's life before it was too late.

Although the footage is a bit all over the place, you can see the moment he gets in, swims out, and is then pulled back with the stranger in tow.

As the fellow officers on land frantically drag the rope back in, the two men are finally close enough to be pulled up and saved from any more possible danger.

Although this video takes place in Nottingham, U.K., anyone can relate to a moment like this. We know we've all seen moments that have terrified us before. Thankfully, James is a hero and saved the day.

Can you imagine being either one of these men in this situation? Both are lucky to be alive.
