Young Boy’s Elf On The Shelf Is Stolen, Then Police Officer Goes Out Of His Way To Return It

When Lorraine Villahermosa's purse was stolen from her car, her main worry was that it contained her son Jovani's beloved Elf on the Shelf toy, Freddie.

On December 7, Villahermosa noticed that her purse was missing from the back seat of her car where she'd left it. Luckily, she keeps her wallet around her wrist, but unfortunately, Freddie the elf was part of the collateral damage when her purse was swiped. The Virginia mom then went on a mission to track down her purse and its contents, namely Freddie the elf.

Jovani was indeed upset when he discovered that Freddie the elf was missing. When he asked his mom where he was, she said, "Maybe he's with the police helping me find my purse."

Little did Villahermosa know that her white lie would be exactly what ended up happening. At this point, the police had been able to track down her purse, but it had to be held in evidence for a few days. That's when Villahermosa had an idea.

In order to obtain "proof" that Freddie was at the police station to make Jovani happy, Villahermosa decided to borrow an Elf on the Shelf from her sister and get a local police officer to pose for a photo.

Villahermosa's sister posted a status on Facebook asking if anyone knew any local police officers who would be willing to help keep Jovani happy by taking even more photos of Freddie at the police station.

One such police officer, Jonathan Perok decided to take on the assignment in a big way, and seriously helped save the day for Freddie and Jovani.

Perok recruited Freddie's double to help him look through a "Bad Guy Christmas" lineup.

He even got Freddie his own business card made to officiate that he was in fact at the police station helping to fight bad guys.

In fact, Freddie's duties went beyond the safety of the police station — he even helped while Perok was out on duty.

Finally on December 9, the real Freddie and Villahermosa's purse were returned to their home. The mom said she was "floored" to see how the officer helped her and Jovani.

She explains to Huffington Post, "I'm just a single mom trying to make my son happy."
