13 Things Only People With Glasses Will Understand

I used to always wish I could wear glasses as a kid. Where most youngsters fear being judged as a four-eyes, I just thought they were a super cute accessory that I was missing out on.

Now that I'm older and my eyes have changed, I am the official owner of my first pair of glasses — and all the frustrations that I didn't realize would come with them.

From day one, it was like I was constantly surrounded by smudges that never went away no matter how many times I used the special cloth the store gave me to care for the lenses.

And that was just the tip of the iceberg. Don't get me wrong, I do still love being able to wear my specs and instantly feel like a smartypants — not to mention my newfound lack of migraines — but I definitely wish they came with a few less of the annoying side effects listed below.

Take a look and let us know if we missed what bugs you the most about wearing glasses. And for those of you who don't where spectacles, did these come as a complete surprise?

1. 3D Movies Are A Balancing Act

Awkwardly attempting to balance the 3D glasses over your prescription ones never gets any easier and can ultimately take away from the whole experience, so we tend to stick to 2D.

2. Laying On Your Side Is A Smoosh-Fest

Unless you're trying to fall asleep and you've taken them off already, laying on your side is just not going to work.

3. Smudges Never Die

You clean and clean (and clean and clean) and yet still, fingerprints and other unidentified smudges remain.

4. Things Get Slippery At The Gym

It's a seemingly endless struggle of keeping your glasses in place to see your progress on the treadmill while constantly pushing them back up when they slide down. This can make even the most avid gym rat consider skipping for the day.

5. Summer Means A Second Set Of Frames

If you don't want to wear contacts on a sunny day, you better be willing to pick up a pair of prescription sunglasses. Otherwise, like with the 3D, you're left with layering up lenses.

6. Amusement Park Rides Are A Risk

Pretty much every ride has an extra air of danger when it comes to whether your not your specs will make it to the end without flying away. You could take them off, but then you wouldn't be able to see all the twists and turns!

7. You Can't Always See Well Enough To Find Them

It's like a dog chasing it's own tail: You need your glasses to locate your lost glasses. Hopefully you have a clear-sighted friend or family member nearby who can help.

8. Showering Can Be Confusing

Raise your hand if you've accidentally used your body wash instead of shampoo, and vice versa!

9. Extreme Weather Makes Life Foggy

Whether it's hot weather or cold (or you're just trying to take a sip of coffee) you know there's always potential for foggy vision in your future.

10. Kissing Can Be Quite Tricky

Especially if both sides of the couple have glasses, prepare for a lens-collision or go in with fuzzy vision.

11. Nose Pads Make A Lasting Impression

Even if we can't see too well once we take our glasses off for the day, we know those splotchy spots have made their marks on the bridge of our nose.

12. Optometrist Appointments Aren't A Picnic

From the small puff of air to the often confusing line of questioning about whether one option is clearer than the other, it can be a major anxiety inducer.

13. New Prescriptions Can Be A Headache

As years go by, you will inevitably need to change the strength of your lenses, which our eyes definitely take time figuring out with such an abrupt shift. This may even lead to regular headaches.

Of course, being able to see clearly (and rock super cute frames) usually makes all of these frustrations totally worth it.
