Being a police officer means so much more than locking up bad guys, although that is an important part of the job.
To be a good police officer, you have to be a good role model for the community, especially the young ones. Good cops engage with their communities, and do just about everything they can to improve them. The best way to improve a community is to ensure the future generations grow up to be good human beings.
The members of the Orem, Utah, police force work very hard every day to enrich their community. There is just about no length they won't go to to get the job done and do it as best as they can.
When Officer Newell and Officer Hutchings went to investigate a case at someone's home, a little boy was on the premises. Instead of instilling fear and uncertainty into the boy by ignoring him, one of the cops did something truly amazing.
See what Officer Hutchings does for this little boy in the video below, and please SHARE with your family and friends on Facebook!

The Orem Police Department posted this photo on Facebook, along with a message:
Today, Officer Newell was talking to a victim in a fraud case where he had just arrested the suspect. Officer Newell was talking to the victim (a mother), Officer Hutchings was talking to the woman’s small son. When Newell was done, he went to find Officer Hutchings and this is what he saw. Officer Hutchings was only able to leave after reading the boy four more stories.

They also wrote:
Often times when we are investigating a case, kids are around to see what’s happening and don’t know how to handle having the police in their homes.

The response to the photo has been extremely positive and supportive!

But Officer Hutchings isn't the only one out there doing incredible work. The Orem Police Department is always on hand when their community needs them. This photo on their Facebook page is captioned: "When you go to get your Pina Colada/Banana slurpee on and you see a girl having a hard day!"

They're sure to support all sorts of good causes, but are also happy to be on the receiving end, especially when Girl Scout cookies are involved.
We had some visitors that came all the way from Texas to give us some delicious girl scout cookies that were paid for by citizens in the ‘Helping Hero’s’ program.
We all love taking criminals to jail but we love girl scout cookies more!

This lost child got to spend time with some happy officers, who may or may not have fed him tasty, sugary treats while police located his parents.

“Regardless of what we are dealing with at work, we’re all human and 99% of police officers got into this job for the right reasons and just want to make this world a better place for our kids,” the department noted on Facebook.

Hats off to Officer Hutchings for his incredible act of kindness, but also to the whole Orem Police Department for their great work!
