A pastor hailing from Manassas, VA has a story that you need to read if you want to better your relationship with the Lord. This story is the true path to becoming more charitable!
The pastor said that, a few years ago, he was attending a Weight Watchers meeting. Every week he would go to get his weight checked and then listen for a half-hour or so to a motivational speaker as they spoke about healthy living.
During one of these speeches, the pastor couldn't help but overhear an angry customer as they were ranting to a manager of the popular health club. The angry woman was screaming about how ineffective Weight Watchers was and how she had been attending their meetings every week for two months but had actually gained weight.
The manager smartly replied, "It is not what you do when you are here that causes you to lose weight — it’s what you do when you are not here that causes you to lose weight.”
The pastor was stunned at that simple statement.
When you're actually at Weight Watchers, of course that's when you're doing fine; that's when you're eating healthy and thinking about proper dieting. When you get home, however, and there's cake, chips, and ice cream… That's when your relationship with Weight Watchers doesn't grow, only your waist does!
The pastor who told this story was all too familiar with this sentiment.
Too often he would have someone say to him, “I have been attending church on Sundays, and I don’t feel like I am growing in my relationship with God.” Whenever he heard that, his mind would return to the Weight Watchers manager. “It is not what you do when you are at church that matters most, it is what you do when you are not at church.”
Isn't that an amazing idea? It's a shame it's not more obvious for most people, but true integrity is what you do when no one is watching!
