Taking care of helpless animals is one of the most important and effective ways to make a difference.
There are countless abused, sick, orphaned, and abandoned animals out there just waiting for someone to come along and give them the love and attention they deserve.
Fortunately, there are quite a few animal lovers who are willing to lend a hand — like this incredible couple who started an animal rescue for hamsters. And when it comes to aiding farm animals, Farm Sanctuary is going above and beyond to do their part.
Patrick is a goat who was saved from an abusive and neglectful home. His spirits were diminished and his health was in need of immediate attention.
The amazing workers at Farm Sanctuary came to the rescue, giving Patrick a second chance at life, and transforming him into one of the happiest goats around.

When Patrick was first rescued from his formerly neglectful home, he was in serious need of medical attention.
Foot and leg problems had gone untreated for quite some time, requiring Patrick to undergo surgery.
The Farm Sanctuary writes on their blog, "His condition had prevented him from fully extending his legs, but his doctors believed that surgery could improve his quality of life."
His legs were operated on and he was given temporary braces.
They write, "He was up and walking on his feet within a week of the surgery."
Patrick's long road to recovery had finally begun. Fortunately, he wouldn't have to face things alone.
Not only did he have the wonderful workers of Farm Sanctuary, but he had a pregnant partner named Delilah who would soon provide him with daughters.
At first, Patrick was rough with all of the other animals. But in time, his attitude began to change.
And though Delilah has since passed, he now "lives with his daughters; he has become the father to them that he never was before."
Indeed, Patrick's entire personality has changed in his time at the sanctuary. He is now a joy to be around.
Farm Sanctuary writes, "We are so lucky to know and connect with this individual!"
But perhaps nothing is so dramatic about Patrick's recovery and transformation as his physical appearance.
When he first arrived after his rescue (as shown above), Patrick was quite disheveled.
But after three years with the Farm Sanctuary, Patrick is an entirely new goat, both physically and mentally.
They write on their blog, "Patrick is one of our most charismatic residents, and loves nothing more than clover-filled pastures, the wind in his hair, and the sun on his back."
Thanks to the wonderful workers at the Farm Sanctuary, Patrick has been given a second chance to lead a happy and healthy life, bringing joy and happiness to each human friend he makes.
