Parents Fire Back After Daughter Is Suspended For Using Knife To Cut Peach In School

When I was very young, I always worried about following the rules. I got good grades, and I knew that getting in trouble for whatever reason would keep me from being in my teachers' good graces.

The rules, of course, depend on the institution you attend. Some children, even parents, may disagree with a few of them, claiming that certain rules in the dress code are absurd and allow teachers to body-shame female students.

But the parents of an honor roll student are totally baffled that their obedient daughter, who only wanted to be generous to a classmate, is now in trouble because she broke a rule they didn't even know existed.

The 11-year-old used a butter knife to cut a peach, the other half of which she wanted to offer to a classmate.

Unfortunately, the use of knives in the cafeteria is prohibited by her school, even a baby's training knife. The act was seen as a threat, and the girl was given a six-day suspension.

Ronald and Andrea Souto are outraged that their daughter was given such a harsh punishment for a simple act of kindness. Other parents agree with them and are hoping the rules change soon so situations like this can be avoided.

The girl's punishment was reduced to just three days, though it will still feature on her permanent record. The Soutos, as angry as they are, are focused on working to make sure that this never happens to another child. Their daughter's situation serves as a reminder to all parents to check school handbooks and regulations before sending their children to school!
