The typical menstruation cycle lasts about 28 days, give or take a few. However, many women don't realize that their period is a near-month-long process, not just the few days you have PMS or the week when bleeding is experienced.
A period cycle consists of the increase and decrease of hormones like progesterone, estrogen, and testosterone. Depending on where you are in your cycle, this can change how you look and feel.
For example, early on in your cycle, around days six to nine, estrogen is up. During this time your skin is clearer — in fact, it glows! Additionally, your features appear more symmetrical, and you feel downright attractive up and down. Not to mention during this time your testosterone is up, so you'll feel more confident and on top of things.
Thus, if you're able to track your cycle, you'd know it would be best to schedule important meetings, a first date, a wedding, or any other event where you want to both look and feel good during those days!
But if your hormones can make you look good and feel good, then yeah, you guessed it, they can also have the opposite effect.
During days 15 to 18, sudden changes in your hormones will cause emotions to run high, along with fatigue and discomfort. Estrogen decreases, while testosterone and progesterone spike up. Your skin gets oilier and may break out. You'll also begin to feel bloated and tired. Chances are when you feel sick and not as happy about your appearance, you won't be as confident.
Eating healthy and light exercise are the best solutions to boost mood and the immune system.
