Herbert Horner left high school at the age of 16 for a major reason: He had just become a father to a baby girl. Instead of joining his classmates two years later as they walked across their graduation stage, Herbert was taking care of his family.
Herbert decided to go back to school to finish his degree a few years ago, and in 2022 he joined 92 other students as they graduated high school in the middle of the year.
Herbert explained how finally graduating made him feel. "It’s a heavy lift off my shoulders of knowing I achieved something I wanted to achieve many and many years ago, before most of the people on the stage was even born I wanted to achieve that goal. This is a blessing."
He also explained what he spent the last two years of his teen life doing. "What made me drop out was my daughter needed Pampers, she needed milk, she needed me to actually provide. I made that choice to actually find another job and work two jobs to do what I had to do at the time."
