Around the time of Stacy's due date, doctors realized something wasn't right. By the time she was rushed to the hospital, Stacy and her husband Gavin knew that baby Phoebe had already passed away inside the womb. It's every expectant parent's worst nightmare come true.
When Phoebe was born, the hospital room was completely silent. She didn't cry or move; she had no heartbeat. Stacy held her daughter close, grasping whatever fleeting moments she possibly could. The hospital brought in a volunteer photographer who stood by the bedside, capturing Stacy and Gavin as they said goodbye. "When it happens, you're pretty sure that your life is over," Gavin told CBS.
Every year, there are approximately 24,000 stillborn babies in the United States. Now, the grieving couple is giving the gift of more time to other parents who experience such heartache and loss. Stacy and Gavin donated a Cuddle Cot to Sutter Roseville in Phoebe's honor, with her name engraved on the surface. The Cuddle Cot is a refrigerated bassinet with a cooling system, which allows parents more time to say goodbye to their stillborn baby.
