Pilot Believes His Plane Was Meant To Be 5th Used In 9/11 Attacks: ‘Haunts Me To This Day’

A pilot named Tom Mannello believes the plane he was piloting on September 11, 2001, was meant to be used in the attacks on the World Trade Center.

In the documentary TMZ Investigates: 9/11: The Fifth Plane, Mannello explains that there were a number of strange activities leading up to the point at which the flight was supposed to take off. The plane was grounded once news of the first attack was received.

Mannello says that box cutters were found in the first class seat pockets of the plane next to his, which could have been a mistake. As he puts it, "If somebody was on the ground cooperating with them, they just simply made a mistake and put the box cutters on the wrong airplane."

Flight attendants also recall passengers who made them uncomfortable. Sandy Thorngren says in the documentary that several passengers were suspicious, including four people in first class — two men, a person wearing a hijab (possibly a man disguised as a woman), and a child — and another man in business class. The man in business class was sweating a lot, despite the cold temperature.

Thorngren recalled, "I could hear them say, ‘We do not want to eat, we don’t need food. We want to take off. We don’t need food. We just want to go.'"
