He Finds Discarded Slabs of Pine And Turns Them Into PURE BEAUTY!

The Renaissance artist Michelangelo, who was responsible for the mural on the ceiling of Sistine Chapel and David, famously said, “Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it…The sculptor's hand can only break the spell to free the figures slumbering in the stone.”

Many carpenters feel that way about wood. They see the raw material in front of them and get a vision of what to build. They see pine and think: gorgeous shelf! They see an abandoned door and think: coffee table! They see a coffee table and think: fireplace coffee table!

Plus, there's been some pretty powerful minds that began their careers as carpenters — Bob Vila, Harrison Ford, Jesus.

The sky’s the limit when it comes to a crafty woodworker’s imagination and Imgur user clay584 is no different when he found a few slabs of salvaged pine…

He found wood at a salvage yard.

He then took out a plumb bob, made a straight line, and chalked the wood.

Once the line was chalked, he was ready to cut it…in between sips of Coke, of course.

He then rented a table saw for a few hours from Home Depot. It set him back $30…

…Then he ripped open the piece!

Then he sanded the pine with 80-sandpaper, then 120-grit, and finally 220-grit in order to get the sleek look he desired.

He filled the natural holes and cracks in the pine with wood filler to smooth it out even more.

He then drilled some holes and routed the backs. Keep reading through to see the incredible finished result...

After the filler had dried in the holes, he sanded once more with the 120-grit sandpaper.

He applied pre-stain conditioner.

He put a single layer of stain on the wood, because he and his wife liked seeing the detail in the wood.

Time to mount the wall. Keep reading to see the incredible finished product!
