Hero Pit Bull Saves Woman From Burning Home

Think pit bulls are a vicious breed? Think again.

In 2013, a massive house fire broke out on Long Island, NY. Jackie was drying her hair in an upstairs bathroom when suddenly she heard her daughter's pit bull, Cain, barking furiously — and Cain never barked.

Jackie ran downstairs to see flames coming from the other side of the garage. Cain's protective nature ultimately saved the woman, who was able to escape the house just in time. "I ran out of the house and my neighbors came running over, and then I thought about the dog — I'm like, 'He saved my life, I have to save his,' " Bonasera said ."So I just put my robe over my face and I ran back in and I grabbed the dog and then I stood out here and I watched my house burn."

Jackie believes that had it not been for Cain's alertness, she would have been trapped inside the home and died. From that day on, Cain was known as the town hero. Jackie hopes her story will help put an end to the stigma attached to pit bulls, as Cain proves there are no bad breeds — only bad owners.
