A terrifying incident just took place on the playground at a Missouri school.
It happened when two dogs attacked during recess. The dogs went after several students who were playing outside of Willard Intermediate South on Tuesday.
Teachers tried to intervene but were attacked as well. But by the time the dogs were contained, 21 people — 18 students and three teachers — had been injured.
The students were in fifth and sixth grades. They were reportedly playing in an unfenced area when the pit bulls attacked. While several students were injured by the animals, many students were injured when trying to escape the chaos.
"I think that it’s negligent that there’s not a fence around the playground, and I am absolutely grateful that my son was just chased by the dogs and wasn’t bitten," said Sarah Harris, a parent whose child attends the school.
The Springfield News-Leader reported that three teachers and three students required medical attention serious enough to be sent to the hospital.
The owners voluntarily surrendered the dogs. Both were later euthanized.
