She Almost Tossed This Old Plastic Tub, Then Realized It Could Save Her Tons Of Money

As each day grows warmer and warmer, it becomes clear that summer is fast approaching. And as April quickly slides into May, people begin to excitedly plan their trips to the beach, backyard barbecues, and family adventures.

But if there's one summertime event that can't be planned for, it's air-conditioning trouble. Though our AC units save us from the sweltering summer heat, they can also be huge pains in the neck: When they're not running up our electricity bill, they're breaking down and costing a fortune in repairs.

That's why this do-it-yourself project is so brilliant. With just an old plastic tub, some PVC pipes, an ice block, and a small car fan (like this one from Amazon), your air-conditioning woes will quickly be a thing of the past.

And because it's so cheap and portable, this ingenious box will come in handy anywhere, anytime.

It may look like a simple plastic tub — but with a quick trip to the hardware store, this container can be transformed into a sweat-reducing, money-saving machine!

Step 1: Gather your supplies. You'll need a 2.5" PVC elbow, a small car fan, a knife, and a deep plastic container.

At this point, your lid should look like this.

Step 5: Pass your PVC elbow through its hole. You can use a pipe clamp to move the elbow and redirect the air, but this isn't required.

Step 6: In the tub, place some bags of ice, frozen water bottles, or ice packs — then turn on the fan, kick back, and cool off!
