When you have kids, one of the best things on the planet is the local park.
On a lazy weekend when the children are "bored" of all of their electronic games, the park is always there for some fresh air and imagination. They can spend hours creating whole new worlds on those play structures and running around from the swing set back to the wooden towers. Doesn't everyone have fond memories of playing outside after school while parents watched on or joined in on the fun?
When the structures on the playground have seen a few too many sunny days, though, they can start to give kids splinters, or get a little rickety and worn down. If the town doesn't have the funding to make those repairs, what happens? The playground falls under threat of getting shut down.
That's exactly what happened to Painter Park in West Haven, CT. The wooden playthings had become too dangerous for the kids to play on, and the town's insurance company told them that they absolutely needed to make the repairs. The town simply didn't have enough funding or man power to get all the work done on their own. That's when Lowe's, the home improvement store, stepped in.
Every year, each branch steps up to the plate and helps out with a community project. This one, though, was too big for just one store to undertake.
That's why four different stores came together to provide the materials, time, and manpower to bring this playground back to life. The whole project should be finished by October of this year.
