2011 marked a big year for former Police Officer Kevin Threlkeld of Simpsonville, SC. With a new job on the horizon, he needed a brand-new look.
Officer Threlkeld was known in and around his community for his big smile and long mane of orange-red hair. He decided to grow his hair out in 2007, much to the displeasure of his family, and never looked back. After three years, he was loving his long locks… And it never got in the way of his police work.
But when Threlkeld was promoted from officer to lieutenant just in time for the new year, he needed a clean-cut look for the prestigious position.
He took his earrings out, shaved his long red beard, and yes, headed to the hair salon to chop off his famous ponytail. Threlkeld donated his many inches of hair to Locks of Love, a nonprofit organization that accepts donations of human hair to make wigs for children in need due to medical conditions.
"He has very luxurious hair, and he probably has hair for about four people," the stylist said. The officer and father knows firsthand the importance of donation. In 2004, his son Eric was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
What a great reason to change up one's look. Lieutenant Threkeld looks like a totally new man!
