With the negative press surrounding police officers as of late, it’s easy for some to forget their moments of bravery — but there are many instances when they put their life on the line for others.
In New Jersey, two cops made a split-second decision to pull a woman from her wrecked car moments before it caught fire. And in another instance, a police office from Dallas saved a man from jumping off a bridge. What happens in the video below is another great example.
Gwenasia Henderson, 22, was heading to Mercy College with her friend when she lost control of her SUV and landed in the Saw Mill River in Westchester, NY. It’s easy to imagine how they must’ve felt when you see their vehicle floating in the beginning of the video.
An off-duty officer happened to be there at the time of the accident and quickly ran to their rescue before anyone else. However, the police officer left the scene as soon as emergency crews arrived.
“I’m getting a little emotional, but I really do hope that he comes forward so I can get his name to thank him personally for what he done yesterday, because it’s good to know there’s still good people out in the world today,” Gwenasia’s mother Ronea Henderson said.
The cop was later identified at Eric Karl, 40, who has been on the force for 17 years.
