North Carolina Postal Worker Saves An Elderly Woman During His Shift

What started out as any other workday turned out to be an unforgettable shift for postal worker Willie Farrow.

Farrow, who had been working the job for 14 years by that time, was delivering a package to Ann Richards' North Carolina home when he realized something was wrong after looking in her window.

"She was laying on the floor; looked like a lot of items had been pulled off of the shelves — maybe she was reaching up to try and get up off the floor and couldn't at the time," he recalled to WXII 12 News. "I did notice some blood on the floor area there. It really just had me worried that she may have been in danger."

Much like the pizza deliveryman in Ohio who saved a woman after a fall, Farrow leapt into action, as you'll see below. His actions ultimately saved the elderly woman's life, and the union later recognized him as a national hero.

"On or off duty, letter carrier heroes generously deliver that ‘extra service’ to the American public every day, and in doing so they proudly carry on a great tradition of delivering for America, six days a week," Judy Willoughby, National Business Agent for the National Association of Letter Carriers, told him at his honoring. "Willie, your dedication and willingness to help is the reason letter carriers are and have been the most trusted government employees for years."
