A helpless pygmy pregnant goat spent 18 hours in pain because her owners wouldn’t take her to the vet. She laid slumped on the ground and couldn’t move because she was unable to give birth.
That’s when a California sanctuary for farmed animals, Animal Place, was called. The rescue is the same one that houses the two piglets who are best friends with a Pit bull.
“We rushed to the scene,” Animal Place explains in the rescue video below. “The goat was down and in extreme pain.”
The rescuers carefully scooped up the goat and took her to the vet who said a C-section was needed immediately. They discovered the goat was unable to give natural birth because she was bred at only seven months.
The vet prepared her for surgery by giving her anesthesia and cleaning the area prior to the surgery.
Although her unborn baby didn’t make it, the goat they named Verna quickly recovered from the painful incident. She will also never be bred again.
“Verna is doing well! She has been integrated with the goat herd. The other goats love her…” the Animal Place wrote on its website in the weeks following.
Just wait till you see the happy goat now at the end of the clip!
