One of the best costumes my mom ever made for me as a kid was Ariel from The Little Mermaid, complete with a bright green tail. It was a bit difficult to walk around in as a 4-year-old, but my heart was set on becoming the beloved character.
As amazing as that was for one evening while trick-or-treating, the woman below made it her whole life's mission to embody those fictional muses. With a background in both science and filmmaking, Linden Wolbert has dedicated her career to the whimsical role of a mermaid, making appearances at aquariums and parties where she spreads her message of ocean conservation.
Though the reason behind her chosen profession is serious, that doesn't mean she can't have a lot of fun while she raises awareness! After seeing her slip into her tail and glide through the water, you'll know this unique lifestyle was definitely Wolbert's destiny.

As she explains on her website, Linden Wolbert always felt so much more at home and comfortable on trips to the pool or ocean rather than on dry land.

Now, with years of diving and scuba training behind her, and plenty of safety precautions, she's able to hold her breath underwater for up to five minutes at a time.

She also admits that the water does sting her eyes depending on the level of chlorine or salt, but that it's all part of being a mermaid!

While getting paid to perform at fancy parties for celebrities is fun, Wolbert explains that the real reason she became so passionate about her job is that, as a big science geek at heart, she wanted to share education and inspiration with young kids.

Seeing their faces light up when they finally see her all decked out in her costume makes every moment totally worth it for Wolbert. I just wish she had been around when I was younger!
