They Don’t Sell Rainbow, Tie-Dye Ice Cream, So She Made Her Own!

Here's a video guaranteed to make your mouth water all summer long…

Even though it's tasty all year long, there's nothing like a few scoops of ice cream to cool you down when it's way too hot out. When one of our favorite YouTube do-it-yourself-ers, YoYoMax12 of the "diet-free zone" discovered that there wasn't a brand out there that makes rainbow swirl ice cream, she decided to do what she does best and put her own colorful spin on the summertime favorite, just like she did with the delicious rainbow merengue cookie recipe found here.

Ingredients:

  • 2 quarts vanilla ice cream (box works best)
  • 6 different Jell-O flavors/colors – she uses Red (strawberry or cherry), Orange (orange), Yellow (lemon), Green (lime), Blue (blueberry mix) and Violet (grape). Please note that Kool-Aid might work, too.

Instructions from YoYoMax12:

  1. Open the ice cream box and cut the 2 quarts of ice cream into 6 equal portions.
  2. In the bottom of the container, place 3 tablespoons of the first color (she uses grape) of Jell-O powder and cover it with one portion of ice cream.
  3. Sprinkle the next flavor of Jell-O over the layer of ice cream and cover with another portion of ice cream.
  4. Continue like this (Jell-O, ice cream, Jell-O, ice cream) until you use up all the colors. You will end up with a layer of ice cream on the top.
  5. Chill the ice cream in the freezer for several hours or overnight until firm.
  6. To get the “tie-dye” effect, scoop ice cream across the “grain” of the ice cream layers on one side of the box.
