If the popularity of things like hide-and-seek, buried treasures, and scavenger hunts has taught us anything, looking for stuff can be pretty fun. Unless it’s your keys and you’re in a hurry, then it’s not fun at all…
But, if you’re using your peepers to find a needle in a haystack, actually spotting that needle can give you quite a pinch of satisfaction.
Hence the success of the children’s book series Where’s Waldo? (Fun fact: Did you know that its original title was Where’s Wally? when it was first published in the U.K.?). The book of meticulous illustrations would take the character Waldo — who wore an easy-to-spot bobble hat, glasses, and red-and-white-striped shirt — and throw him into a very active crowd of characters and challenge the reader to find him. If you’re familiar with the books, it wasn’t easy. There were tons of visual “red herrings,” or images that resembled Waldo’s distinctive appearance, which made the whole experience even more exciting.
One Reddit user, poeticmatter, is takingWhere’s Waldo? to a whole new level of whoa! He actually dressed up as the iconic character, hid throughout a crowded mall, and had someone take pictures.
Now it’s your job to find him. Can you? I had a really hard time!
